APPLICATIONS
A UK customer required an automatic packaging solution for 1–5g matcha tea powder stick packs. Based on the fine, lightweight and dust-prone characteristics of matcha tea powder, Samfull customized a 4-lane stick pack packaging machine equipped with a servo auger filling system, dust extraction, anti-static treatment and Siemens control components.
During the final factory test, the machine achieved an actual operating speed of 33 cuts per minute. With four lanes working simultaneously, the total production output reached approximately 132 matcha tea powder sticks per minute.

Matcha tea powder is extremely fine and lightweight. It has different flow characteristics from granular products such as sugar, salt or coffee beans. During high-speed packaging, the powder may generate dust, adhere to machine surfaces or enter the sealing area.
An unsuitable filling system may cause:
Unstable filling weights
Powder accumulation around the filling tubes
Contaminated sealing surfaces
Weak or incomplete seals
Powder leakage
Inconsistent finished-stick appearance
For this project, the machine was equipped with a servo-driven long-auger filling system. The auger accurately controls the amount of matcha tea powder discharged during each packaging cycle, making it suitable for the customer’s 1–5g filling range.
The SP-2.0S machine forms, fills, seals and cuts four matcha tea powder sticks simultaneously. One roll of laminated film is divided into four packaging lanes, providing higher output than a single-lane stick pack machine while maintaining a compact production footprint.
During factory commissioning, the machine operated at an actual speed of 33 cuts per minute.
Calculated production output:
4 lanes × 33 cuts/min = approximately 132 sticks/min
The final production speed may vary depending on the target filling weight, matcha tea powder density, film properties, sealing temperature and production environment.
The servo auger filling system provides precise control over auger rotation, dosing time and powder discharge.
Its main advantages include:
Accurate filling for small 1–5g doses
Stable feeding of fine matcha tea powder
Easy adjustment for different target weights
Better synchronization with the packaging cycle
Reduced filling-weight fluctuations
Improved repeatability during continuous production
Less product waste during machine adjustment
The filling parameters can be adjusted through the touchscreen, allowing operators to change the target weight according to different product and packaging requirements.
Dust control is particularly important when packing fine matcha tea powder. If powder enters the horizontal sealing area, it may affect seal strength or cause visible contamination around the seal.
The customized machine includes:
Dedicated dust-extraction system
Anti-static device
Vibration device for powder settling
Enclosed multi-lane filling section
Stainless-steel product-contact surfaces
Zinc-free materials in relevant product-contact components
The vibration device helps the matcha tea powder settle toward the bottom of each stick before sealing. Combined with dust extraction and anti-static treatment, this reduces powder accumulation and helps keep the sealing area clean.
The machine adopts industrial Siemens control components to coordinate powder filling, film feeding, sealing and cutting.
| Component | Configuration |
|---|---|
| Touchscreen HMI | Siemens KTP900 |
| PLC | Siemens S7-1200 |
| Servo system | Siemens V90 |
| Temperature control | Independent temperature-control modules |
| Interface language | English and Chinese |
| Coding system | Industrial inkjet printer |
Operators can set and monitor the main production parameters through the touchscreen, including:
Filling weight
Auger dosing parameters
Stick length
Packaging speed
Film-feeding position
Longitudinal sealing temperature
Horizontal sealing temperature
Cutting position
Coding timing
Start and stop functions
The modular control design simplifies daily operation, product changeover and production-parameter management.
The finished package is a narrow back-sealed stick pack measuring 35mm wide × 150mm long.
The machine uses laminated packaging film with a total width of 320mm. The film is automatically divided into four lanes before forming, filling and sealing.
The packaging section includes:
Automatic film unwinding
Four-lane film splitting
Back-seal stick forming
Vertical sealing
Horizontal sealing
Serrated cutting
Automatic finished-stick discharge
The serrated cutting system separates the finished matcha tea powder sticks cleanly. An additional complete cutting knife set was also included according to the project requirements.
The machine uses stainless-steel construction for improved hygiene and easier cleaning. All specified product-contact surfaces, including the relevant parts of the powder feeding system, are made from SS316 stainless steel.
This configuration provides:
Improved corrosion resistance
Hygienic product contact
Easier cleaning and maintenance
Suitability for food and beverage powder packaging
Reduced risk of product contamination
The customized product-contact components also meet the customer’s requirement for zinc-free materials.
Before delivery, the complete matcha tea powder stick packing machine was assembled and tested at the Samfull factory.
The inspection covered:
Filling-weight accuracy
Stick width and length
Back-seal alignment
Horizontal-seal quality
Film tracking stability
Cutting-position accuracy
Coding performance
Powder leakage
Continuous operating stability
Finished-stick appearance
The specified maximum nonconformity rate was 3 sticks per 1,000 finished sticks, equivalent to 0.3% under the agreed inspection conditions.
The customized 4-lane matcha tea powder stick pack packaging machine successfully completed factory testing at 33 cuts per minute.
With four packaging lanes, the machine delivered an actual total output of approximately 132 sticks per minute. The servo auger dosing system provided stable filling for the 1–5g weight range, while the dust extraction, anti-static and vibration devices helped control fine matcha tea powder during production.
This project provides the UK customer with an integrated solution for accurate dosing, high-speed multi-lane packaging and reliable production of single-serving matcha tea powder sticks.
In addition to matcha tea powder, this multi-lane stick pack machine can be customized for:
Green tea powder
Instant tea powder
Milk tea powder
Instant coffee powder
Coffee creamer
Sweetener powder
Electrolyte powder
Probiotic powder
Vitamin powder
Dietary supplement powder
Pharmaceutical powder
Functional beverage powder
The filling system, screw design, dust-control configuration and machine speed should be selected according to each product’s density, particle size and flowability.
Samfull provides customized multi-lane stick pack packaging machines for fine powders, granules, liquids and pastes. Machine configurations can be designed according to your product characteristics, filling weight, stick dimensions, packaging film and required production capacity.
